2008 BOYS & GIRLS CROSS COUNTRY NEWS

The SM Boys CC team finished 9th out of 17 teams at the SM Rocket Invitational last Saturday.  Team scores in paper.

Joe Denk - 20(17:36), John Campbell - 49(18:36), Alex Flanagan - 55(18:48), Sam Gargulak - 72(19:07), Josh Roszak - 73(19:09), Vince Totka - 80(19:20), Rob Alexander - 106(20:11), Max Schweikl - 108(20:23).

Considering the rain, the boys competed well.  We could have place a little higher, but Andy Zimmermann was not able to compete.  Alex Flanagan & Sam Gargulak continue to run well in the 3,4, & 5 spot.  We will need to have those two boys plus John Campbell get closer to Denk & Zimmermann if we hope to move up in the team standings at our remaining meets.

The Girls team finished in 10th place.

Rachel Westover - 20(16:46), Leah Rendflesh - 21(16:54), Katie Wood - 47(17:30), Alysha Rendflesh - 91(18:32), Stephanie Blake - 94(18:35), Brianna Vivian - 106(19:03).

The girls also ran well.  We finished 6 places higher than last year.  We need to get our 4th & 5th runners under 18:00 if we hope to move up in the team standings.  The efforts of freshmen Leah Rendflesh, Katie Wood, & Junior Stephanie Blake have enable our team to perform much better than last year.

Our next meet will be the 30 team Racine St. Catherine's Invitational to be run at UW-Parkside on Saturday, Sept. 20.

Race Schedule:  Girls JV - 8:40 a.m., Girls Varsity - 9:20 a.m., Boys Varsity - 9:55 a.m., & Boys JV - 10:30 a.m.  This is a very good meet and give us a chance to compete on the course that we will run for the sectionals.

The coaching staff was very pleased that we were able to hold the Rocket Invitational despite the rainy weather.  This would not have been possible without the outstanding help of our parents and alumni.  We really appreciate their hard work and so do the 500 runners who were abe to compete on Saturday.

The coaching staff would also like to thank all the people who brought food for our 8th annual food drive.  Despite the bad weather we were able to donate over 175 food items to So. Milw. Human Concerns.
